The all-glass roof is one of the best things about a Model 3 or Model Y, until a summer afternoon turns the cabin into a greenhouse. Tesla doesn’t build a retractable shade into these cars, so a fitted shade (Tesla’s own or aftermarket) is one of the most common first purchases for owners in hot climates.
This shade fits the Model Y Juniper (2025+) and Model 3 Highland (2024+), with front and rear roof panels that clip or stick in place without tools.

Why a roof shade helps
Tesla says its roof glass blocks most UV, but it still lets in a lot of light and radiant heat. A reflective shade on the inside bounces more of that back out before it warms the cabin, which helps the car stay cooler while parked and lets the air conditioning do less work when you get in. That matters a little for efficiency and a lot for comfort, especially for rear passengers and pets.
What we like
- Tool-free install, so you can take it out for night drives and stargazing
- Covers front and rear roof sections
- Sets for both the Model Y and Model 3
- Folds for storage in the trunk or sub-trunk
What to watch for
- Big price spread. Sets range from $56.99 to $268.99. Compare what each set includes; you may only need the 2-piece version.
- Headroom. Any roof shade adds a thin layer. Tall rear passengers in the Model 3 may notice it.
- It darkens the cabin. That’s the point, but some owners prefer to fit only the rear panel in summer.

Where to buy
The shade is sold by EV Wholesaler in several piece counts for each car. Start with the 2-piece set unless you want full coverage.
Verdict
If you live somewhere sunny, a roof shade is close to essential for these cars. This one has the features that matter (tool-free fit, front and rear panels, folding storage), and the cheaper sets are good value. The top sets are pricey for what they are, so buy the smallest set that covers your roof.
