Why it’s worth it
- Protects the connector. A dropped plug can crack or collect dirt in the pins, which can cause poor contact.
- Keeps the cable off the floor, so you don’t drive over it or trip on it.
- Makes daily plugging faster. The plug is always in the same place at the right height.
What to watch for
- Connector type. Holsters are shaped for a connector. Most non-Tesla home chargers use J1772, while Tesla and many newer chargers use NACS. If you’re unsure, look at the end of your cable before ordering.
- Choose the iron bracket if you want the sturdiest mount; the plastic version is cheaper.
- Outdoor use. A holster doesn’t seal out rain. Pair it with a plug cover if your charger lives outside.
